Hydrocleys nymphoides (Aquatic) (Water Poppy) - Short-lived, lemon-yellow flowers with a brown eye, rise above the 2-4 inch waterlily-like leaves from summer to fall. The three-petaled flowers usually last only a day but are borne in quick succession over a prolonged period. It grows best in shallow water that receives full to partial sun. Shiny, deep green, oval leaves occur along 2-3' long stems and send out roots at each node, allowing for easy division. It is usually evergreen in warmer climates but may burn when temperatures drop into the 20s for an extended period. It is native of slow-moving or still waters in Equatorial America.
